Patagonia As the Land of the Magellan Giants

Posted in Nature by admin | Tags: , , ,

The Patagonia is a land laying oi the theritory of Argentina and Chile. The land contains extreme high glaciers and mountains to steppelike flats. So why I called the Patagonia the land of giants? Because of the discoverer Ferdinand Magellan and his expedition. The native people of Patagonia were in average about 1,80 cm tall which was, to comparison to average Spaniards of height 155 cm of that time, much taller and the expedition called them giants. It is not known where the word Patagón came from, but it is assumption that the word came from Spanish novel by Francisco Vázquez, which was the inspiration for the Magellan naming.
